I don't know about you, but I've always been somewhat embarrassed by unsolicited praise and such. Not that I *mind* it, my ego is very healthy and hungry, thank you very much. I just didn't want to be the guy tooting my own horn, (like certain other popular web sites, who's names I won't bash here... ;-) ANYways, the folks who have honoured me with these things certainly deserve a healthy back-link from me, they all provide a service to the 'net at large. Thanks folks!
This was one of the first awards I received, entering the list at #9 and settling down at #6. Most of the sites on this list are heavily into animations and such, so my site stands out as an exception. This was one of the ones that boosted my hit count into the 5 digit category.
Here's a badge of shame I'll wear with honour. I recieved the coveted "5 Hanks" award, along with Imagex Design and Charlie Parker's "Argon Zark". My hit count went ballistic after this one.
Well, this was cool, albeit a bit watered down, as I saw this little medallion *all* over the place. I don't know if it affected my hit count, but the review was *very* nice. I recieved top marks in my category (computer art), and got a screen shot published in their book, "The Top 1,000 Sites on the WWW". Something to show my Mom that she'll actually understand. :-)
This was fun, and I noticed a few of my main competitors right up there at the top with me. Nice comfy feeling, that. I believe the list has been trimmed down a bit since then, but I'm still on it, so that's cool. :-)
Shane started this service with my site. Turns out we both use the same kind of systems, almost to a "t". (Macintosh, BTW) Kind of neat to see how the same system can produce such different, but cool work. A site worth visiting.
This one was kinda cool, even if I didn't win. That honour went to Charlie Parker and the dreaded "Argon Zark". Apparently there was an Internet poll conducted in the UK, and my site was one of the top 3 chosen in it's category. Always fun to hear that folks have been talking about you for months, and you've never even heard of them before.
